Lapping agents and lapping liquids

The choice of the lapping agent used depend on the materials being worked. The size and type of the grit depends on the hardness of the material and the surface roughness requirements. The most commonly used grit sizes are FEPA 400 to FEPA 800

The lapping liquid serves as a carrier and lubricating medium. It carries the lapping grit onto the lapping disk and cools it during the lapping process.

The guideline value for the mixing ratio between the lapping grit and the lapping liquid should be approximately 200 g/litre.

In the case of water-soluble lapping liquid, the mixing ratio should be increased to 300 g/litre.
